A new initiative from the National Trust, 40 Under 40: People Saving Places honors 40 movers and shakers—all age 40 and under—from a variety of backgrounds and industries. Ortiz is honored to be included in the Community Activism category with other inspiring leaders. These innovators are expanding our view of what it means to save places and tell America’s full history.
On November 16, 2018, Ortiz co-presented to the Past Forward conference in San Francisco with fellow 40 under 40 awardee Adriel Luis on how to connect and work with communities in respectful and ethical ways through our work as artists.
All honorees were chosen by the National Trust for their significant impact on historic preservation and related fields such as architecture, community activism, storytelling, and business, as well as for their contributions to the public’s understanding of why places matter.
